Top Haqqani network leader Ismail Jan killed: ISAF

In Afghanistan the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has confirmed today that a top Haqqani network leader Ismail Jan was killed in a precision airstrike in Gardez district of Paktiya province on Wednesday. According to the news release issued by ISAF in Kabul today he was suspected of providing material support to suicide bombers who attacked a Kabul hotel on Tuesday night. The release says Haqqani network, along with Taliban operatives, was responsible for attack on the Kabul Intercontinental Hotel which killed more than 10 people and injured several others. In addition to the hotel attack, the Haqqani network is responsible for several high-profile attacks, including the assassination of a provincial governor, Taj Mohammad Wardak in September 2008.
