Top Generals indicted in Darjeeling land scam

Army's two top Generals, Military Secretary Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash and Deputy Chief-designate Lt Gen P K Rath, face the prospect of disciplinary action with an internal probe into a land scam in Sukna near Darjeeling finding them culpable.<br/><br/>Army sources said the Court of Inquiry (COI) headed by Lt Gen K T Parnaik, the General Officer Commanding of the Tezpur-based 4 Corps, indicted the two officers for their role in issuing a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to a private establishment that falsely claimed to be establishing an affiliate of the famed Ajmer-based Mayo College.<br/><br/>The sources the Army headquarters is awaiting the inquiry report to order summary of evidence against those found culpable in the land fraud. <br/><br/>After the Darjeeling land fraud controversy emerged, Defence Minister A K Antony had ordered a probe into the allegations and on a number of occasions pointed out that even top brass of the Army would not be spared if the charges were proved.<br/><br/> <br/>
