The BJP today anointed the Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi as Chairman of the BJP Election Campaign Committee for 2014 general elections. The announcement was made by the Party President Rajnath Singh in his address to the concluding session of the Party's National Executive meet in Panaji, Goa. The two day meeting ended this evening.

Senior party leader L K Advani stayed away from the meet, citing ill health. Some other leaders, including Jaswant Singh, Uma Bharati, Yashwant Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha also did not attend the meet.

In a tweet, Modi said that he had spoken to L K Advani who gave him his blessings. Mr. Rajnath Singh told reporters that the decision was taken on the basis of consensus.

Later, addressing a rally, Modi accused the Congress, its President and the Prime Minister of non-serious governance. He said, the UPA government has no clear policy to tackle terrorism and Maoism.Mr. Rajnath Singh accused the government of having failed on all fronts.Reports said, senior party leader Sushma Swaraj skipped the rally and returned to New Delhi.

Commenting on the developments, Union Minister and Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said that the internal feud in the BJP, has reached its peak.
