Too premature to talk about Headley’s extradition to India: US

US says it is too premature to talk about the extradition of US national David Coleman Headley to India for his alleged role in Mumbai terror attacks. US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, P J Crowley told this to reporters in a press briefing in Washington. He was responding to a question about the statement by Indian Home Secretary G K Pillai in New Delhi that India would seek extradition of Headley. He said the US doesn’t have an extradition treaty with India, but how that will work going forward is premature to say. Earlier the spokesman of National Security Division of the US Department of Justice told PTI that the FBI and Justice Department continue to share information with country's foreign and domestic law enforcement partners in the Headley investigation. He said as a matter of long-standing policy, US never comment on extradition matters. He added that Headley would remain charged in federal court in Chicago and the investigation would continue.Early this week, FBI formally charge sheeted Headley for being allegedly involved in the Mumbai terrorist attack. Headley who is now in a Chicago jail, had pledged not guilty before a Chicago court.
