Toll in rain related deaths in TN goes up to 70

<br/>In Tamil Nadu, torrential rains continue to lash several districts with the death toll in rain related incidents going upto 70. Nilgris district accounted for the maximum of 40 deaths, with reports of people being killed by landslides, triggered by continuous rains. The chief minister Mr Karunanidhi has rushed two senior ministers to the rain hit Nilgris district to oversee relief operations. Mr Karunanidhi also announced an ex-gratia of one lakh each to the families of those killed in Nilgiris district. The Coimbatore district administration has been directed to send rescue teams to Nilgiris, to help people in the landslide hit areas. The met office in Chennai has said yesterday depression over south east and adjoining east central Arabian Sea, has moved North North Westwards and intensified into a deep depression and lays over east central Arabian Sea. It says under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at man places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours. Isolated heavy to very heavy rains is also likely to occur over Tamil Nadu during the same period.Kethy in Nilgiris district recorded a maximum of 82 cms of rain, followed by Coonoor 31cms, Kothagiri 27cms and Ooty 19 cms, all in Nilgiris district.<br/>
