Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday after US stocks gained on better-than-expected manufacturing data in the country's industrial heartland. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange opened up 61.81 points or 0.69 per cent to 9,017. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.46 per cent.
