Today World Braille Day

Today is World Braille Day. Louis Braille who revolutionised the lives of blind people with his invention of a simple system of six raised dots was born on 4 th Jan, 1809. It enabled the visually impaired to read. Although technology has played a vital role in opening up communications and information for people with sight loss, Braille script has endured. A series of functions are being organized to promote the rights of visually impaired people across the country. In Gujarat, many programs have been organized in Ahmedabad to mark the occasion, which include launching of Braille calendar, Braille Computer Instruction Book, Braille Magazine-‘Zarmar’ and Kids Encyclopedia Gujarati, all in Braille script. AIR correspondent adds that All India Radio- Ahmedabad has arranged for reading of evening Regional News bulletin by a Blind person-which will be prepared in the Braille script.
