Today is World Water Day

Today is World Water Day and the day is observed on 22 March every year, to raise awareness about the importance of water. The theme this year is, 'Nature for Water' – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges the world faces in the 21st century. ””The World Water Day is about focusing on the importance of water and the need to preserve it. The day encourages people not to waste one of the most important elements that sustain life on the planet. ””” An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. ”””On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet message has said, it is an occasion to highlight the importance of Jal Shakti and reaffirm the commitment towards water conservation. He said, when water is conserved, cities, villages and hardworking farmers benefit tremendously.”””The Rajya Sabha today observed the World Water Day with Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu underlining the need for supporting the conservation of freshwater resources through natural methods to ensure availability of sufficient potable water for the future generations. ”””Making a reference in the House on the occasion, Mr Naidu said the theme is relevant for the country where climatic change, population growth and changing consumption patterns are contaminating the freshwater systems and depleting groundwater tables at an alarming trend. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu also called on people to reduce, reuse and recycle water on World Water Day.
