Today is World Press Freedom Day; PM reiterates support for free Press

Today is World Press Freedom Day the United Nations General Assembly declared 3rd of May to be World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished on the day and reiterated his unwavering support towards a free and vibrant press, which is vital in a democracy. In a tweet Mr. Modi said, today social media has emerged as an active medium of engagement and has added more vigour to press freedom.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kedarnath today to pay obeisance. Mr Modi is scheduled to arrive at 9.30 AM at the Kedarnath which is one of the four shrines on the Chardham circuit. The portals of the shrine will be thrown open after a six month-long winter break. <br/><br/>He is also scheduled to inaugurate a research centre at Ramdev's Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar scheduled at 12 PM before returning to Delhi the same day. Yesterday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed the preparations ahead of the prime minister's visit.<br/><br/>
