Today is the World Cancer Day. It is observed on the 4th of February every year to create awareness on cancer as a public health issue and to strengthen actions towards improving access to quality care, screening, early detection, treatment and palliative care. This year the them is Close the Care Gap which is about understanding the inequities in cancer care and taking actions to make the necessary progress to address them.<br />” <br />”On the occasion, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has appeled to the people to join hands to strengthen global fight against cancer. In a tweet, he said that the Centre is working to ensure early detection and affordable treatment of cancer through Ayushman Bharat -Health and Wellness Centres, Prime Minister &nbsp;Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and various other initiatives. He said that a total of &nbsp;17 crore 44 &nbsp;lakh oral cancer screenings, 8 crore 27 lakh &nbsp;Breast cancer screenings and 5 crore 66 lakh Cervical Cancer screenigns have been conducted at these Centres so far.

It said, these countries have focused their limited resources on combating infectious diseases and improving maternal and child health instead of fighting cancer.&lt;br /&gt;''&lt;br /&gt;''WHO said, they often had the highest cancer mortality too.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
