The Centre of Excellence in Biofuels of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has been selected as one of the networking partners in the European Union (EU) funded project JATROPT – Jatropha curcas: Applied and Technological Research in Plant Traits for a period of four years from 2010 to 2013 with a budget of 1,15,937 Euros (Rs.69,56,220 lakhs). Dr. P. Murugesa Boopathi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU stated in a press release that the European Union project involves nine countries. The network partners include Private companies, Universities and Research Institutes. The project will be coordinated by the Plant Research International, Wageningen, The Netherlands. The Vice Chancellor explained that the project JATROPT aims at linking high quality research groups and companies that are now operating in different continents in order to achieve a large synergy in research and development of Jatropha as a biofuel crop.
