TN Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister resigns

Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Balakrishna Reddy has resigned following a special court sentencing him to three years imprisonment. His portfolio has been allocated to School Education Minister KA Sengottayyan, as said in a release from Raj Bhavan.<br />''<br />''Mr Reddy was convicted yesterday in a stone pelting case by a Chennai special court, that looks into cases against people's representatives. In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a fine of ten thousand rupees on him.<br />''<br />''Sixteen other people have also been convicted in the case. It relates to a demonstration in 1998 at Hosur in Krishnagiri district against illicit liquor, in which transport corporation buses were damaged.<br />''<br />''Initially the case was being heard by a Krishnagiri court, that was transferred to the special court after its formation recently.<br />''<br />''However, the court has suspended Mr Reddy's jail term, by acceding to his request, to enable him to file an appeal before the Madras High Court.
