Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has announced the setting up of a mobile monitoring team under Joint Industrial Chief Inspector to safeguard employees of firecracker, matchbox industries in Virudunahar district. In a statement issued today she said that the team will conduct surprise inspections and monitor the health and safety aspects of employees. She said that the team also create awareness about safety norms to be followed in such industries. It should be noted that 38 persons died in a firecracker accident in Muthalaipetti on 5th of September last year and eight people died in Salem firecracker accident last month. The government is to spend 38 lakh seventy thousand rupees for setting up this team. Jayalalithaa also issued orders to connect the industrial zones with the nearby ESI medical centres.
