In Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai Assembly byelection ruling AIADMK’s Karthik Thondaiman won by a huge margin of 71 thousand 498 votes. Karthik Thondaiman polled one lakh one thousand 998 votes and his nearest rival DMDK’s Jahir Huassain polled thirty thousand 500 votes. The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of Communist Party of India MLA Muthukumaran on April 1. CPI had won the election in alliance with AIADMK in the last Assembly poll.
