In Tamil Nadu, 40 per cent polling was reported till now in the second phase of the local body elections today. Polling has been by and large peaceful in 194 rural Panchayat unions, 63 municipalities and 270 town Panchayats.Seventy five per cent votes were polled in the first phase which was held on the 17th. Re-polling will be held tomorrow in seven booths. Counting will be on the 21st of this month.In Chennai 18 counting centres have been set up. The process will be supervised by 35 observers. The whole process would be recorded on camera.The State Election Commission had made elaborate security arrangements all over the State in view of the election.The EVMs and ballot boxes are being guarded under tight security. Sensitive booths have been identified and put under video surveillance.
