TN, K’taka CMs talks on Cauvery water fail to evolve consensus

The talks on Cauvery river water sharing issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu failed to arrive at any conclusion. The Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter held discussions with his Tamil Nadu counterpart Ms. J. Jayalalitha on the issue as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Tamil Nadu demanded 30 TMC feet of water for the next 15 days to save samba crop over 14.63 lakh acres of land. Karnataka however expressed its inability to meet the demand. Karnataka Chief Minister explained that the state needs 20 TMC feet of water for drinking in Bangalore, Mysore and other cities till the onset of monsoon in June next year.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister told newsmen after the meeting that Karnataka refused to part with water and the state will approach Supreme Court once again.
