TN govt sanctions Rs 2 cr for Chennai Open

The Tamil Nadu government today sanctioned two crore rupees for conducting the popular tennis tournament, Chennai Open. The sanction has been done as part of the state government's sports promotion activities. A government release said that this was in line with the former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's earlier announcement of sanctioning the amount annually for holding the tournament from 2014 to 2016. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu tennis stadium which hosts the premier event, has been given a face lift following a 4.50 crore rupees upgradation initiative approved by Jayalalithaa last year. The week-long Chennai Open tournament is scheduled to begin in Chennai from January 5.
