The Jayalalithaa government today announced a Commission of Inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the under construction New Assembly Secretariat complex. The new complex is a pet project of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, whose estimates have touched around 1,000 crore rupees. Governor S S Barnala said in his address to the Legislative Assembly Session that the commission headed by a retired High Court judge will inquire into the alleged irregularities like excess expenditure, inordinate delay and deficiency in standards of construction. He said, further works would be stopped to facilitate inquiry. The DMK government had held the last session in the new Assembly Secretariat complex, but Jayalalithaa has justified the decision to stick to the historic 17th century Fort St George building citing administrative considerations.Outlining the policies of the new AIADMK regime, Mr Barnala said, there will be zero tolerance towards corruption and the government will continue to deliver social security schemes. The new system for old age pension which will deliver the pension at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries will begin from September 1st this year. It had also pledged to take stringent action against hoarding and black marketing as a price control measure. Price stabilization fund with a corpus fund of 50 crore rupees would be set up to extend interest- free financial support to the co operatives for market intervention for price rationalization. The government has promised to strengthen police force by providing it with sophisticated equipment and training. E- governance initiative like crime and criminal tracking network system will also be put in place at the earliest.
