Tamil Nadu Government has announced a power holiday for industries to tide over the acute power shortage. Besides, load shedding for domestic consumers has been increased across the state. The State Electricity Board said the power cuts for domestic consumers will come into effect from Monday, while the power holiday for industries will be implemented from the 1st of next month. All industrial and commercial consumers will also have a 40 per cent power cut from Monday. A press release issued by the TNEB said Chennai City and its suburbs will have load shedding for 2 hours, while other rural and urban areas would have 4 hours of power cuts. The Board, however, sought to assure students taking the school final exams that steps will be taken to ensure uninterrupted supply to the extent possible. The Board said additional load shedding had become necessary to tide over the shortage of 3000 to 4000 MW of power.
