In Tamil Nadu, the four member expert committee constituted by the state government to look into the safety aspects of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project and address the fears of the local population, is to meet in Chennai on Friday.Talking to AIR Chennai correspondent, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and member of the committee Mr. M.R.Srinivasan said the group will attempt to complete the task as early as possible. Replying to a question on Russian Ambassador Mr Alexander Kadakin’s statement that Russian nuclear scientists in Kudankulam cannot remain idle and are needed elsewhere, Mr Srinivasan said it would be unfortunate if the Russian scientists leave the project and hoped that they would not take such a step. AIR Correspondent reports that a section of villagers in Kudankulam and Idinthakarai are on an agitation against the project, leading to the delay in commissioning of the first unit of nuclear plant.Meanwhile, the state BJP President Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan has urged the tamil nadu government to extend support to the centre in commissioning the Kudankulam power project.Government on Thursday said it will take steps to launch the Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant after a Committee appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government submits its report and made it clear that Russian Scientists would continue to remain at the plant site.Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office V.Narayanasamy said the Centre is waiting for the report of the high-level Committee headed by M.R. Srinivasan even as a panel constituted by the Centre gave a clean chit to the project.The Minister said India wants good relations with all countries and that the ongoing probe into the Delhi blast has nothing to do with India-Iran ties.
