In Tamilnadu, more than 10 thousand people who were stranded in flood waters in Chennai, were rescued by the defence forces and the fire and rescue personnel for the past 24 hours. A press release stated that the naval team comprising of experienced divers, swimmers and two inflatable geminie crafts, have been working in co ordination with the State Secretary Dr.Rajaraman. More than 34 thousand people in Kanchipuram district have been moved to safer places and are housed in 116 camps. Pallar and Pennaiyar in Vellore district has also seen a sharp rise in the water levels. Both rail and road bridge at Kallar river bridge situated near the Rajali naval air base at Arakkonam has been closed for traffic.
