TN fishermen to be freed after legal process : Lanka

he 23 Tamil Nadu fishermen , who were apprehended by the Sri Lankan authorities on Monday for unauthorized crossing of the International Maritime Bundary Line (IMBL) will be released after the legal process is completed in the coming week. Speaking to AIR, the Sri Lankan External Affairs minister Prof GL Peires said it was not an isolated issue and that the whole gamut of issues relating to fishermen was being discussed at appropriate fora, including the Indo-Sri Lankan Joint Working Group on Fisheries and the representatives of fisheries association from both countries. According to the Sri Lankan Navy, the 23 Indian fishermen were caught by them fishing about six nautical miles off Tailaimannar.The arrested fishermen have been remanded to judicial custody till 1st July 2011 in Sri Lanka.
