In the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, it was a day of rejoicing for the families of 136 fishermen who reached the Indian coast today. They were released by the Srilankan Navy and handed over to the Indian authorities and were received at Nagapattinam by the District revenue officials and Member of Parliament A K S Vijayan at 6 am this morning. The fishermen sought a permanent solution to the issue of crossing over to the neighboring island and said that it was difficult to find out the borders in the sea. One hundred thirteen of them were caught by the Srilankan Navy on the 16th and others a day later. The incidents sparked off protests throughout the state. Hectic diplomatic talks by the Centre and persistent efforts by the state brought relief to the issue.
