The farmers of Cauvery delta districts of Tamil Nadu are relieved that Karnataka has decided to release water into Cauvery as per Cauvery River Authority order. AIR correspondent reports, the farmers in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu including Thanjai, Nagai and Tiruvarur are happy that more water will be flowing into Mettur dam. Samba cultivation is in full swing in about one lakh 25 thousand hectares in delta districts. At present 13,000 cusecs of water is released daily from Mettur dam which is again opened for cultivation from Kallanai. The inflow to Mettur dam is only 3,067 cusecs and the level has reached 74 feet out of its full capacity of 120 feet. The water released from Krishnasagar dam in Karnataka will reach Mettur by tomorrow evening and this will improve the situation. The delta farmers who have lost Kuruvai cultivation are hoping that Karnataka will release more water to save their Samba cultivation.
