TN CM urges Centre to take steps for immediate release of 15 fishermen

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has urged the Union Government to take concrete steps for the release of 15 fishermen from Nagapattinam, who have been arrested by the Srilankan Navy on 21st last. <br/><br/>In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, she has said, action should also be taken for the release of 28 fishing boats which are under Srilankan custody. She has reiterated her demand for the retrieval of Katchatheevu for ensuring traditional fishing rights of Indian fishermen in its vicinity and in the Palk Bay.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has urged the Union Government to take concrete steps for the immediate release of 15 fishermen from Nagapattinam in the state who have been arrested by the Srilankan Navy on Tuesday night . <br/><br/>In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, she has said, action should also be taken for the release of 28 fishing boats which are under Srilankan custody. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also reiterated her demand for the retrieval of Katchatheevu for ensuring the traditional fishing rights of Indian fishermen in its vicinity and in the Palk Bay. Ms Jayalalithaa has also sought Rs 1520 crore central financial assistance to enable diversification of fishing operations by the fishermen. <br/><br/>
