Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today presented a gold medal and a cash prize of 9.90 crore rupees to the new world chess champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen with a wreath made of olive leaves at a ceremony held in Chennai today. Ms.Jayalalithaa also gave 6.03 crore rupees to India's Viswanathan Anand, the runner up of the match and presented him with a silver medal.The 53rd World FIDE Chess Championship was held from 7th to 22nd November in Chennai. In the Championship, 43 year old Anand who remained the unbeaten king of the game for five times, had to lose the battle for the highest crown. Carlsen secured 6.5 points to claim the title while Anand was able to secure only 3.5 points in the championship.
