Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Tuesday presented cash prizes to nine sports persons and five coaches who bagged honours in various events last year. The prize distribution function was held at the Secretariat in Chennai. Cheques totalling Rs. 99.05 lakh were presented to the individual sports persons and coaches. An official release said the nine have bagged medals at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in Odisha, at the 7th World Dwarf Games in Canada and the Asian Age Group International Championship at Uzbekistan, last year.Palaniswami gave a cash award of 20 lakh rupees to G Lakshmanan who bagged gold medals in the 5,000 metre and 10,000 metre runs at the Odisha event. S Arokiya Rajiv, who won the gold in 4 by 400 meter relay and silver in the 400 metre run, was given Rs. 15 lakh.The Chief Minister also presented cheques to R Mohan Kumar, K Ganesan who bagged three gold medals in the World Dwarf Games as well as C Manoj, P Vikas , V Leonard and S Dhanush.
