Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Mr M.K. Stalin on Tuesday launched a 1200 crore rupees Project to clean up the highly polluted Cooum River that runs through the Chennai city. Kick starting the ambitious scheme, Mr Stalin said in the first phase, clean up operation will be taken and encroachments will be removed from the embankments. He said already funds have been allotted to the public works department, Chennai Corporation and the metro water from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban renewal mission. Mr Stalin said a co-ordination committee comprising of officials of various departments will be constituted to oversee the implementation of the project.<br/> <br/>
