TN CM Jayalalithaa seeks PM's intervention to end NLC strike

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has sought the urgent intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the ongoing labour strike in the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation – NLC. Over 12-thousand regular employees are on an indefinite strike since July 20 seeking wage revision. Several rounds of talks between the management and the staff in presence of the Union Labour Ministry officials did not yield any results and a section of the contractual workers are also extending support to the agitating staff.

The NLC that explores lignite also generates 2,990 megawatt electricity and supplies upto 1,450 megawatt to Tamil Nadu. Apprehending disruption of power supply due to the prolonged labour unrest, Ms Jayalalithaa has written to the Prime Minister to look into the matter immediately and instruct the Coal Ministry to settle the issue amicably, saying, any further delay would adversely affect power supply situation in all southern states including Tamil Nadu.
