TN attracts over Rs. 2 lakh 42 thousand cr investments

Tamil Nadu has attracted over 2 lakh 42 thousand crore rupees worth investments at the Global Investors Meet held in Chennai, which is more than double the target. Addressing the valedictory function of the two-day event, the state Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa said, to sustain the momentum, the summit would be held every two years. A total of 98 memorandum of understanding were signed today in the event. Despite global economic downturn, the state has managed to ink agreements worth more than 2 lakh crore rupees in manufacturing and energy sectors together apart from significant amounts in IT and Textiles.Over 10 thousand small and medium industries have also decided to set their shops. Ms Jayalalithaa assured approvals within 30 days of filing applications.Most of the industrial projects are at present are concentrated in Chennai and its adjoining areas. But the highlight this time is that nearly 50 percent of the manufacturing industry proposals are meant for the backward southern districts.
