TN Assembly session begins with speech of Governor

The Tamil Nadu Assembly session began today with the speech of Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah. The Governor’s address mainly dwelt on the various welfare schemes implemented by the State Government. On the issue of Mullaperiyar, the Governor said that Tamil Nadu has ensured the safety of the dam. He urged the Centre to rethink on the present institutional framework with relation to the interstate river water disputes which remain unresolved.The Governor said the Central Government that the proposed Dam safety Bill should ensure the safety of dams to the Dam safety cell of the state owning the dam instead of the state where it is situated. On the issue of Tamil fishermen being harassed by the Srilankan Navy, the Governor’s speech reiterated that the Centre should take up the issue strongly with the Srilankan Government so that the fishing rights are protected. The Assembly session will be held till the 4th of February.
