TN Assembly requests President to reconsider the rejection of mercy petition

The Tamil Nadu Assembly today requested the President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to reconsider the rejection of mercy petition of the three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Through a unanimous resolution, the members also requested the President to commute their death sentence. Moving the special motion in the House, Chief Minister Ms.J.Jayalalitha appealed to the President to review the rejection of the mercy petition of the convicts who are to be hanged on the 9th of September. Ms.Jayalalalitha said that considering the sentiments and the feelings of the Tamil people, the special resolution has been brought in the Assembly.
