Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday placed several demands in a unanimous resolution on the issue of Sri Lanka including the demand to the Centre to stop calling Sri Lanka, a friendly nation.

Replying to the special mention in the Assembly, the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that since the Tamils continue to experience untold sufferings in the Island Nation, India should take a concrete stand on the issue at international level. Describing the issues after the final phase of the war, the Chief Minister reiterated that a referendum should be conducted on the issue of Tamil Eelam. During her speech, the Chief Minister hit hard at the DMK for its inability to take a stand on the issue while it was a part of the Government.

During the Chief Minister’s Speech, leader of the DMK legislative Party M.K Stalin, sought an opportunity to explain. But as the opportunity was denied, the DMK members continued to raise objections and tried to protest before the Speaker's Chair. Speaker P. Dhanapal issued several warnings but since they did not heed to him, he ordered the members to be evicted from the Assembly.
