TN Agricultural University sets up Gene Bank

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore established a Gene Bank facility, which is the first of its kind in any State Agricultural University in India. The Gene Bank is meant for conservation of genetic resources for future use. <br/> <br/>The Gene Bank has been established with a budget outlay of 1.2 crores rupees, provided by Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Dr.P. Murugesa Boopathy, Vice-Chancellor TNAU, inaugurated the Gene Bank facility in the University campus on Friday. <br/> <br/>He said that Germplasm collections of cultivars, land races and wild species will be maintained in the Gene Bank. This Gene Bank has been named after the legendary. <br/>
