The Trinamool Congress has decided to withdraw its support to the UPA government at the Centre to protest against what it called their anti-people policies. Announcing this after an emergency meeting in Kolkata last evening, party Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee said that Ministers of the Trinamool Congress will submit their resignations to the Prime Minister on Friday.
Congress has said that the party consider Trinamool Congress a valuable ally, despite what its leader Ms Mamta Banerjee's yesterday's decision. Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Party General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said her demands will be discussed with senior Congress leaders and course of action will be planned.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar dubbed the Trinamool Congress' withdrawal of support from the UPA government as a reflection of what it said the arrogance of power in Congress.
Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav called the withdrawal of support by the Trinamool Congress a very serious issue.
Meanwhile, another key UPA constituent, the DMK said it will continue to support the government at the Centre.
JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said whatever has happened is in the best interest of the country.
The CPM also reacted to the decision by the West Bengal Chief Minister saying it vindicated the call of the Left Front for a bandh on 20th September.
