Trinamool Congress MPs today staged protests outside Parliament over the reports that the government is mulling to bring some changes in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Party MPs including Saugat Rai and Sudip Bandhopadhyaya joined the protest.

However, the government has already clarified that there is no such move.
Replying to a debate in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Rural Development Minister Chaudhary Birendra Singh said, the scheme will continue to be implemented across the country. He said, the government will ensure the ratio between wage component and material will remain 60:40 at the gram panchayat level.
