TMC MP Tapas Pal tenders unconditional apology for his insensitive remarks

Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal today tendered unconditional apology for his insensitive comments threatening to kill opposition CPI-M workers and having their women raped if a single ruling party worker was attacked.

The apology came following a direction from the party after his remarks triggered outrage and strong condemnation from political parties and individuals.

TMC general secretary Mukul Roy said in Kolkata that his comments are condemnable. He said the party does not approve of it. He added that the party has sought an explanation from him and cautioned him.

The Secretary General of the Trinamul Congress and State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Partho Chatterjee said that the Chief Minister and Party Supremo Miss Mamata Banerjee has also saddened over the comments made by Mr. Pal.

The Congress today staged a walkout from the State Assembly in protest against speaker’s refusal to accept an adjournment motion on the issue. The opposition Left, Congress and BJP have also condemned the comments. Various women organization took out processions in Kolkata and elsewhere demanding his immediate arrest. The effigies of the Trinamul Congress MP were also burnt at different areas.

The CPI-M, demanded that Parliament should act against the MP and that cases be filed for criminal intimidation and incitement to violence.
