At the London Olympics, India's Tintu Luka will be seen in action along with 23 other athletes in the semi-finals of the Women's 800 metres race later on Thursday night.
Tintu Luka was not on any list of medal hopes before the start of the mega event. But things changed on Wednesday, when Tintu, trained by the Payoli Express P. T. Usha clocked 2 minutes, 1.75 seconds to enter the semifinal round.
It is beyond doubt that Tintu will face tough competition tonight. But Indian sports lovers are hoping for the best.
Meanwhile, India's lone high jumper Sahana Kumari could not qualify for the finals of women's high jump event. Sahana failed to clear the 1.85 metre mark in all her three attempts and got eliminated.
In Wrestling, India made a rather disappointing start as their lone woman wrestler Geeta Phogat lost her opening bout to Tonya Lynn Verbeek of Canada 1-3 in the pre-quarterfinals of the Women's 55 kilogram Freestyle event.
In the repachage round, Geeta will face Tetyana Lazarreva of Ukraine. The winner of the bout will have a chance to fight for the Bronze.
India's male wrestlers will begin their campaign on Friday when with Amit Kumar Dahiya competing in 55 kg free style and Narsingh Pancham Yadav battling it out in the 74 kg free style category.
