Times Square reopens after police defuse car bomb

New York authorities have now reopened the Times Square after the city police defused a car bomb parked in Times Square. Earlier, thousands of people were evacuated from the heart of the city's entertainment district after they found a potentially powerful bomb in the vehicle. The New York Times reports that the bomb was discovered as it was in the process of detonating, but mal-functioned. A bomb disposal squad was sent last night to a suspect sports utility vehicle which Mayor Michael Bloomberg says contained propane tanks, gasolene, commercial grade fireworks and timing devices.
