In Nepal, top leaders of three major parties- Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN(UML) have stressed the need for consensus and cooperation for completion of the peace process and drafting of the new constitution on schedule. Taking part in a televised discussion organized by a local television and FM Radio station in Kathmandu on Thursday, the Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist) Prachanda reiterated his party’s commitment to the peace process and said his party is in favour of forming a high level political mechanism to address all outstanding issues. CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress also stressed the need for discussions among the political parties on issues relating to federal structure, form of the government and the electoral system under the new constitution and to review the short comings amongst the parties to arrive at a consensus. He said timely drafting of the new constitution is should be the top priority of all political parties. AIR Correspondent reports that a large number of constitutional experts and prominent leaders of the civil society took part in the discussion.
