Tight security arrangements made for 2nd phase of Jharkhand polls

In Jharkhand, tight security arrangements have been made for the second phase of elections scheduled to be held on Wednesday. In this phase 14 of the remaining 55 constituencies will go to polls. Most of these constituencies are in the naxal infested areas. Polling will start at 7 in the morning and will continue upto 3 p.m Director General of Police B. D. Ram said in view of Maoist affected areas heavy deployment of forces have been made to ensure free and fair polls . Jawans of central para military forces have been deployed on all polling booths to ensure trouble free polls. He said the State police, SAP jawans and Homeguards have also been engaged in election duties. The Election Commission has appointed 9 observers and 450 micro observers to monitor election process. Over 17 thousand polling staffs have been engaged for polling days. The Joint Chief Electoral officer of Jharkhand A. K. Sinha told AIR that elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth polling. AIR correspondent reports that the state administration has appealed the electorates to turn out in large numbers to exercise their right of franchise without fear. 31 lakh voters will decide the electoral fortune of 259 candidates including 15 female candidates. Important candidates whose fate will be decided includes Sarfaraz Ahmad of congress from Gandey, , Raja Peter of Janata Dal ( United ) from Tamar ,Sudesh Mahto of AJSU from Silli, Bandhu Tirkey of Jharkhand Janadikhar Manch from Mandar , Chandra Mohan Prasad of BJP from Giridih and Smt. Annapuna Devi of Rashtriya Janata Dal from Koderma.
