Tight security arrangements in the capital

Tight ground-to-air security arrangements were made in the National Capital for incident free conduct of Independence Day celebrations .The Union Home Ministry had issued a country-wide alert on the occasion. It had asked the states to tighten security at sensitive locations and installations to thwart any attempt of terrorist strike. Thousands of personnel of Delhi Police and para-military forces were deployed in and around the city, especially near the Red Fort from where Prime Minister unfurled the Tricolour and addressed the nation for eighth consecutive time this morning. A no-fly zone was in place around the Red Fort. 40 CCTVs were installed in and around the Red Fort, while sharpshooters of the National Security Guards (NSG) were deployed on the high-rises around the monument. The localities around the Red Fort had been sanitised to keep a check on any movement of anti – social and anti – national elements. Traffic on certain was diverted and it was closed on some routes in the morning.
