Tibetans in exile celebrate 75th of 14th Dalai Lama

In Nepal, Tibetans exiles organized a function to celebrate the 75th birthday of their spiritual leader the 14th Dalai Lama at the Tibetan Refugee camp at Jawalkhel in Kathmandu amidst heavy security deployment.Nepal Police detained at least 200 Tibetan exiles on their way to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 75th birthday in Kathmandu. According to police sources, they were later released following an interrogation.Hundreds of riot police personnel were deployed in the Swayambhunath and Boudhanath areas of Kathmandu valley. Police sources said that Tibetan exiles will be allowed to celebrate the Dalai Lama's birthday inside monasteries and refugee camps so long as the facilities do not contain slogans or banners protesting against China. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had urged all 601 Constituent Assembly members not to accept invitations by the Tibetan community to attend the birthday celebrations.According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, nearly 20,000 Tibetan refugees have made Nepal their second home, living mainly in the Kathmandu valley and Pokhara in western Nepal.
