Thundershowers, squall lash Ghazipur dist of UP; 11 dead

In Uttar Pradesh at least 11 persons including 6 women were killed and more than 30 injured last late evening in Ghazipur district after thundershowers accompanied by squall lashed the entire district. Injured are admitted in primary health centres and district hospital. District administration has announced to provide one lakh rupees each to the next kin of deceased.<br/><br/>Quoting official sources AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that vehicular traffic has normalised on main roads including Ghazipur- Varanasi, Ghazipur- Ballia and Ghazipur- Azamgarh routes which was disrupted after storm. The storm uprooted trees and electric poles affecting movement of traffic in different parts of the district. Disrupted power supply and communication has been partially improved. The local administration has provided financial assistance to the family members of three persons killed in squall after completion of post mortem.<br/><br/>Causalities are reported from Saidpur, Jamania, Mohamdabad and Ghazipur city areas. Most of the deaths have taken place in houses collapse and uprooting of trees incidents triggered by dust storm. In several areas of the district many roof-tops and dilapidated walls fell down in the squall.<br/><br/>Expert has said that high velocity wind was blowing with speed of 180 Km per hour which has caused disruption in power supply and road traffic. It has also damaged makeshift bridge on river Ganga in Jamania area.<br/>
