Three soldiers killed in Turkey clash

In Turkey, three soldiers have been killed in a clash with suspected Kurdish rebels in the southeastern part of the country. Security sources today said the soldiers had encountered the members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, late yesterday on a road near the town of Nusaybin in Mardin province, close to the Syrian border. The sources said two soldiers died at the scene, while a third died later at a military hospital. Clashes between Turkish forces and Kurds have increased since the PKK called off a yearlong cease-fire in June. The group cited repeated Turkish military attacks for ending the truce. The PKK has been fighting for Kurdish autonomy in southeastern Turkey for more than 25 years.
