Three political leaders file nomination papers for PM's post in Nepal

In Nepal, the process of filing nomination for the election of Prime Minister began from 11 (Local time) today which will continue till 5 this afternoon. The election of the Prime Minister will take place tomorrow. No party has filed their nomination till the time of filing this report. Barring Nepali Congress who has unanimously proposed the name of its parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudyal, no other party has so far proposed the name of their candidates. Unified CPN(Maoist) and CPN(UML) are holding last minute crucial internal discussions to take their respective party stand on the formation of the government and nomination of their candidates following differences of opinion within their respective parties. Terai based parties are also holding internal discussions to decide their stand on government formation.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the election of Prime Minister through a simple majority in parliament is necessitated as the political parties could not form a government based on consensus within the 12 day dateline set by the President Ram Baran Yadav following the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on 30th of June. Major political parties including the Unified CPN (Maoist), CPN (UML) and Terai based parties are engaged in last minute discussions to decide on the Prime Ministerial candidate and parties stand on the government formation. While a section of the Maoist led by the party Chairman Prachanda are considering supporting a CPN(UML) led government under the leadership of UML Chairman Jhalnath Khanal, another faction led by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said the party should make all effort to form a Maoist led government. The party is expected to take a final decision on the issue later today. The CPN(UML) is also holding its standing committee meeting to decide whether to propose the name of party President Jhalanath Khanal as its candidate for the Prime Minister's election or to support another party in government formation. The Terai based parties, whose role is crucial in government formation, are also holding internal consultations. By this evening a clear picture is likely to emerge on the power equation as the nomination process comes to an end.
