Three militants belonging to the proscribed Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) have surrendered in Imphal in Manipur on Monday. They also surrendered one US made M-16 rifle, one AK-47 rifle and one 9mm pistol before the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General C.A Krishnan and Director General of Police, Manipur Mr. Y. Joykumar. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Joykumar said that peace is vital for a progressive society. He said that the state police along with Assam Rifles and all other law enforcing agencies will strive to curb the activities of various underground groups operating in the state, which are posing serious threats to the people as well as the development of the state. The state police chief further appealed for public co-operation and support to bring back all the misguided youths into the national mainstream. He also assured that adequate facilities will be provided to the surrendered militants for proper rehabilitation. Major General Krishnan said that fencing along the porous Indo-Myanmar border has started and it is going on smoothly at a 10 Km stretch along the border.
