Three major parties of Nepal unite to resolve political deadlock

Nepal’s three major political parties – the Unified CPN(Maoist), the Nepali Congress and the CPN(UML) formed a six-member taskforce to iron out differences among the parties to find an amicable solution to the current political deadlock. This was decided at a meeting of the top leaders of the three main parties in Kathmandu. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Maoist Chairman Prachanda and the Acting President of the Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala among others. Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Nepali Congress spokesperson Arjun Narsingh K.C said that the meeting agreed in principle, to review all the past agreements reached among the parties in the past, the timely drafting of the new constitution and completion of the peace process. He added that the taskforce would start its work immediately and come out with a draft consensus resolution within a couple of days.AIR Correspondent reports that the meeting of the top leaders of the three main parties held after a long gap was aimed at finding a consensus among the parties to resolve the continuing parliament impasse and on completing the peace process and drafting of the new constitution on schedule. The recent Kailali incident in which five people were killed in clashes between the landless squatters and the security forces also came up for discussion during the meeting.<br/>
