Three major Nepalese political parties resume talks to forge broader consensus on Govt formation

In Nepal, the three major political parties- Unified CPN(Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have resumed talks to forge broader consensus including forming a national consensus government after the parties reached a three point agreement that led to the extension of the term of the constituent assembly for one year. <br/> <br/><br/>Talking to newsmen after the meeting, the Maoist Vice Chairmen Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the discussions were focused on narrowing down the points of differences to forge an understanding among the parties on the agreements reached on Friday.<br/> <br/>The agreements include commitment to work together to complete the peace process and constitution drafting, the resignation of the Prime Minister to pave way for a national consensus government and the extension of the term of the constituent assembly.<br/> <br/>However, the 10 ruling parties have in their meeting held today maintained that the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal would not resign until the Maoists abide by the Friday's agreement and made sincere commitment to complete the peace process, that includes return of the seized the properties, dismantling para-military structure of its youth wing – the Young Communist League and agree on the number of Maoist combatants to be integrated into the government security agencies.<br/> <br/>AIR Kathmantu Correspondent reports that there are already divergent interpretations of two clauses of the agreement reached among the parties on Friday, as to what will come first – the commitment on implementation of all past accords by the Maoists or the resignation of the Prime Minister to pave way for forming a national government.
