The Afghan Intelligence Agency, National Directorate of Security, NDS has rescued three Indians abducted by the Taliban militants in eastern Logar province of Afghanistan on Friday. In a statement issued in Kabul, NDS said that the three Indian nationals working as engineers for a private company were abducted when they were on their way to Kabul from Logar city. The militants were planning to take them to Pakistan but on the basis of intelligence inputs, the NDS in an operation freed them. A suspected militant has also been arrested during the operation. However no group has claimed the responsibility for the abduction so far.
The National Directorate of Security has asked all foreign nationals residing in Afghanistan to exercise precaution while travelling through the highways in the country. The NDS has also advised them to obtain security information from the police authorities before travelling through highways as there are security threats for the foreign nationals.
In another incident of abduction, armed militants abducted five Afghan members of the Red Cross in western Herat province of Afghanistan. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officials in Afghanistan yesterday said its five Afghan employees were abducted when they were travelling from western Herat province in a vehicle. According to the officials the ICRC is in contact at various levels
for the safe release of its staff.
